Karl Greenhill Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 Picked up this small fan (13" tall and about 10" wide) the other day. The badge is pretty hard to read, but it appears to say Cool Spot and a model number of 581. I have seen several pictures of the "snowflake" cage on a different model, but can't find anything on this model number. The oscillating gearbox is quite different than others I have seen. Any ideas on ID or fan info? Thanks, Karl 1 Quote
Juan Varleta Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 Hi Karl...Your lovely fan was made by the Signal Electric Manufacturing Co. in Menominee, MI, probably around 1940. They weren't the biggest manufacturer, so you don't see THAT many of them floating round these days. They did however make a quality product right into the 1950's and many of them were that exact color of green. "Cool Spot" was their popular line of of residential fans. The Cool Spot name also survived into the mid-50's. That cage design had been used on more than a few of their models since the late 30's. I'm pretty sure they also made fans for Sears under the "Cold Spot" name. 1 Quote

Karl Greenhill Posted April 25, 2022 Author Posted April 25, 2022 Thank you Juan and Jim. Interestingly enough, just using a little Dawn dish soap and the greenish paint has been coming off. Since there was this paint on the grommets, I assume it was repainted, but I would think the greenish tint is the correct color. Any thoughts? Quote
