I’m a newbie at antique fan collecting and restoration.  My folks are going to check out these fans at auction tomorrow.  Any thoughts on the makes?

I discovered by searching around that the right fan is a fairly rare Westinghouse debonair fan.  One site said that the 16” size is so rare only about ten are known to exist.  That sounds like a bit of a stretch maybe, but I’m thinking this is a good find.  Any opinions out there?  It looks like it is a bit rough, but the parts are there should be fixable!

Love those little Menominee fans on the left. Definitely a Westinghouse Debonair on the right. I used to have a 16" Debonair. Traded it for some Emerson brass 😁

That Menominee looks to be in good shape cosmetically. From a distance at least. I’d love to see what it looks like with a simple cleaning. Heckuva find!

I have a similar Menominee. Do you mind saying what you paid for it (PM me if you don't want to publish it) That's a terrific little fan and it cleans up very well.

Darryl Hudson can supply the feet and carbon brushes if needed.

Funny, JIm. Wouldn't that be something!

I'd still counter-offer $3.  Thumbup.gif.e6959fcdce9e22f3f32e6735b4a6e143.gif

I have a menominee as well, the one I have is the first year of the horizontal mounted slide (knife) switch in the base, and mine I got for free, so no one can beat that one price wise. 😆

Mine dates to about 1914, and when I got it, it wasn't functional (hence why I got it for free) so I fixed the electrical issue and now its one of my nicest antique fans (the rest of my functional fans are 1940s or later.)

The tab base slide switch came before. Tab through, tab slide, cone...

@Paul Carmodythanks! I got the Emerson for $55. I paid $50 for the Menominee. And $7.50 for the Westinghouse.  I’m kind of surprised by the lack of enthusiasm for the Westinghouse. Did I drink Kool-Aid and thinking that it was something special and rare? It’s the 16 inch by the way

You were right about the 16" Westy , it is something special partly because it is different and partly because it is so uncommon to run across. You must have been the only fan collector at the auction. Great little Menominee fan !.

The 8" slide base switch was introduced to the market in 1910 and remained on the market until 1912-13(?). Your model should have voltage/cycle info. stamped into a guard support.
