Anthony Lindsey
This fan runs in one direction and blows air to the backside where there is no grill. Anyone familiar with these? Should it be bidirectional or blow air out the front grill?
Stan Adams
Unless it says reversible, window fans always blew out, sucking the heat from the house & drawing in cooler air through the other open windows. The grille & motor would be inside, out of the weather & the discharge is open as it is outside.
Tom Zapf
ANTHONY YOUR FAN IS AS IT WAS MADE.... THIS CAME IN 2 FLAVORS...YOURS WAS THE BASE 3 SPEED EXHAUST MODEL. IT ALSO CAME AS A HIGHER END 3 SPEED REVERSE MODEL AND THE 6 SPEED NOTATIONS WOULD BE ON THE GRAY PLASTIC MOTOR COVER AT THE REAR. THIS IS 1956-ISH TO 1958 WHEN THE DELUXE MODEL GOT THE SUBURST GRILLE AND THE EXHAUST ONLY VERSION WAS CHANGED TO IVORY WITH A DIFFERENT GRILLE... YOU MOUNTED THE FAN TO THE WINDOW FRAME (USING THE EXPANDABLE SIDE PANELS) WITH THE MOTOR AND GRILLE TO THE INSIDE AND THE WINDOW SASH COULD BE RAISED AND LOWERED WITHOUT REMOVING THE FAN ...THESE ARE VERY QUIET AS AN EXHAUST FAN EVEN ON HIGH SPEED . YOU RAN THE FAN BLOWING OUT THE OPEN WINDOW AND AIR WOULD COME IN THROUGH OTHER OPEN WINDOWS IN THE HOUSE
Tom Zapf
ALSO THESE ARE FUN TO TRY AND OIL...IF YOU REMOVE THE REAR COVER AND THE SWTICH HOUSING YOU CAN DRILL A SMALL HOLE IN THE "CENTER PLUG" (AT THE TOP ) ONN THE REAR OF THE MOTOR....***IF YOU CAN REMOVE THE BLADE *** I LIKE TO LAY THE FAN ON ITS BACK OVER A BUCKET OR 5 GALLON PAIL TO PROTECT THE REAR MOTOR COVER AND THE FRONT OF THE ROTOR IS FINNED.. AT THE BASE OF EACH FIN (FAN IS LAYING ON ITS BACK ) WHERE THE SHAFT WILL ENTERE THE SINGLE MOTOR BEARING , YOU CAN SEE SMALL RECTANGLULAR HOLES. WITH GOOD EYES YOU CAN LOOK IN THERE AND SEE THE SHAFT ENTERING THE BEARING. THERE ARE WICKING STRIPS THAT LEAD ALL TH E WAY BACK TO THAT REAR CAP. YOU CAN ADD DROPS OF OIL AND SPIN THE ROTOR BY HAND AS THE SHAFTS HAVE PASSAGES CUT IN TO THE SURFACE TO KEEP OIL MOVING ALONG THE SHAFT . YOU CAN ADD OIL OVER A DAY AND LET IT SLOWLY TRANSIT BACK TO THE REAR CAP WHICH COVERS A LARGE FELT WICK AND A CAVITY TO HOLD OIL. ...GOOD LUCK WITH IT ! Tom Zapf
THATS AN OPEN SWITCH JUST A METAL TAB AND SOME SOLDER DOTS ON A PIECE OF FIBERPHENOLIC STYLE BOARD AND A HOUSING TO HOLD IT IN PLACE. A 3 SPEED SWITCH IS EASY SINCE IT IS SINGLE DIRECTION CAN YOU CLEAN THE CONTACTS ON YOURS? A PHOTO WOULD HELP
