Darryl’s Eye surgery

Thanks to all of my fan family who have sent best wishes and prayers concerning my recent eye surgery.  On January 5 my left eye hemorrhaged and filled up with blood.  At that time there was no pain associated with the hemorrhage, I just couldn’t see out of that eye.  We had to wait a few weeks for the blood to dissipate in the eye so the retina doctor could better see what was going on inside the eye.  We then found that there was a detached retina.  The doctors then told us the best route to take to save this eye is called a “scleral Buckle”, where they insert a band around the eye ball and stitch it in place.  The buckle stays there permanently.  There are several good YouTube videos out there that show what this surgery entails, just search “detached retina buckle”.  It’s a very invasive/severe surgery.   It’s going to take sometime for recovery, so I am going to ask that y’all don’t send me any work until we can get though this and see what the outcome is going to be.  If it’s just some small parts you need please inquire and if It is something that I have already made and in the drawer I can send it, but I will not be doing any lathe or mill work for the foreseeable future.  Thanks for all of the encouraging emails and texts I’ve been receiving.   This truly is a great big family and I appreciate each and every one of you.

Take care Darryl and I hope you are feeling better soon.  That does sound like a painful surgery.  Hopefully your eyesight will return to normal soon!

Darryl,

Wishing you a speedy and full recovery.   Sound scary.  Can only imagine what you’re going through.
All the best to you.

Speedy recovery Darryl. That retinal detachment happened to me in the 1980’s and a scleral buckle was used to repair my eye. 40 years later I do have a blind spot in my eye but life has been normal otherwise. And my good left eye compensates for my damaged right eye. Wishing you only the best!!
