My first time attempting pin striping.

I have an old twist and spin from the 60s for exercise. I covered it with aluminum as its a collectors item. I had the soldering holder. I bought a set of copper, gold and silver sharpies and tapped it to the soldering holder. Seems to work just fine. Takes a bit to set it up so it does not move. My first attempt messed up as I tried to hold the marker stand too hard. A bit of Mguires car polish and a paper towel removed it with a light bit of pressure. I am painting this fan pearlized white/gray. Brass polished and painted accents. DSC08573.thumb.JPG.cf325829b5191f88c90c4a3d71aec9ac.JPGDSC08574.JPG.db2856cc83d833dec6e61b2d6c9229ae.JPG

They are uniform width and straight. R&M couldn't do better.  If you decide to expand on these talents, please keep us posted. 🙂

I agree it is very good. And if you wanted outside business, you could make this a side business. No one seems to do this anymore. And tape just isn’t the same. Congratulations!

Tim, as I looked at your rig, I realized I have the same soldering tool, which I rarely use. Now you have inspired me to attempt this in a few weeks. My photo shows a crude imitation of your rig. I’ll refine in soon!  Thank you for the idea👌

Malcolm no problem. Always want to share any hacks or different ways of doing things. Here is the fan. Just finished it. The blade is just so slight out of balance. Just a bit of wobble. Some one really monkeyed with it. I was not sure I could get it running. Also found a surprise inside the fan. The whole schematics. Tim.  You can buy a DuBro blade balance system on Amazon for under 30 buck. It’s designed for RC airplanes propellers but can be used on your 12” blade. The heavy wing will fall to the bottom much like tire balancing. Check out YouTube for a DuBro prop balance system and demonstration   Then when the heavy wing is detected it’s easy to remove metal with Right Angle grinder. I could help you do this but don’t know you location. I am in Florida

Nice job. I have a beugler tool I use. Sometimes I secure it onto loctite tubing arms with its built in guide wire. Then i turn the fan part on a lazy susan. But I've done several fans now so I can usually just hold the tool and get straight lines. The sloped curves can be tricky to keep the lines equidistant. This was the last one I did.FB_IMG_1680636530994.thumb.jpg.f0cab43cf4bed9e95be00cce931bb5e3.jpg

That isn’t always true. That’s only one factor that can cause an imbalance and not a cure all. Blade pitch, runout, and clock all factor in.

I noticed these awhile back and saw them up front.  The colors are amazing.  Me personally, I like "Sharpie" brand.
