Terry Fisher Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 Nice finds. Would rather hear the fans run than hear the music. Quote

If you Google map it, the address looks to have been across the street from from where the World Trade Center buildings were built. The factory report lists that address, so I'd assume that's where they made them. Quote

You have to be really careful doing your homework distinguishing the actual factory location address as opposed to sales office address. 136 Liberty St. New York (example) was a large building loaded with manufacturer's (elsewhere) sales offices and independent agencies. In some cases, like the De Mott concern, you may or may not pin down the actual factory (shed) location. This has been a very common stumbling block on this website through the years. Agencies and electrical contractors late 19th and early 20th century were a manufacturers lifeline to get marketing foothold in various locations. Edited April 24, 2023 by Russ Huber Quote

In De Mott's case, the State of New York Factory Inspection Report is listing 173 Greenwich St as the De Mott factory address. I give a little more weight to this report than, to your point, what gets listed in the trade magazines. I think the 173 Greenwich St address was both the home/sales office and the 'shed'. Also from the inspection report... Edited April 24, 2023 by Jeff Lumsden Quote
Russ Huber Posted April 25, 2023 Posted April 25, 2023 I am trying to find an image of the building at 173 Greenwich St back then. It must of been decent sized. Yes, IF.....De Mott was actually 2 people slapping those mighty mouses together, factory & sales could be sandwiched in one big room. Quote

Madden's agency was established just days/weeks prior to the De Mott motor being advertised under his roof. Madden's agency was not necessarily specific to the De Mott motor immerging on the market.
