Vic Valencheck
I'm in the process of restoring this 16" Verity. The bearings need to be replaced so I removed the front and rear bearings. It just had dawned on me that there are no holes in them for the oil wick to run against the shaft. Could it be that these bearings are not the original ones and someone forgot to drill holes in them? Russ Huber
If the Veritys dates 1930+, is it possible they used Oilite bearings? If they are Oilite (porous bearing) all that is required is the oil saturated wick to touch the surface of the bearing. Chrysler (patented) introduced them just prior to 30 Oilite - Wikipedia
Russ Huber
These early 30s Gosling design fans have Oilite sleeve bearings. One example I found in the wild had a frozen rotor shaft. The blade would not turn as the rotor was seized in the dried up Oilite bearings. When I restored it, I drilled holes down through the oil ports through each bearing (with rotor shaft out) so you oil it properly when needed. Hopefully they have the correct size.
Russ Huber
You could also use a standard bearing and convert the wicked oil cups to grease cups if you can't locate the proper Oilite bearings. 🙂
Vic Valencheck
I applied oil to the outside of the bearing. The oil doesn't seep through. No wonder they wore out. They also turned the motor 180 degrees. Oil cups are supposed be on the bottom.

I don't own one of those contraptions. I guess you're the only one that owns one of those being no one posted to advise you of your housing orientation. The good news is you're on top of it, Vic. And there is no law you have to replace the worn bearings with Oilite bearings, if in fact that is what they are. Lol. I do know one thing, when you get it restored, it will be a honey. 🙂 Edited May 19, 2023 by Russ Huber
Vic Valencheck
Well I know one thing for sure, is that the front oiler is at the bottom because the screw holes for the missing handle is at the top.

That's a big red flag, Vic. Lol. FWIW....placing the name VERITY on the post title would have probably gained more attention from those that know that your handle was missing. 🙂

Will see if that brings out the Verity gurus. Haha
