Ryan King Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 I received a beautiful 73646 AK from a friend who took great care of the fan. I received it in all its original glory. It had the old capacitor but one day it was running on my desk and rocked a certain way and I heard a loud buzzing sound. So I stopped it and it wouldn’t turn on after. I sent all the metal pieces to be media blasted and I refinished the paint. I also replaced the power cord and head wiring . It still didn’t run afterwards. Is there a replacement capacitor that I can find or use that isn’t one of the old carcinogenic capacitors? Also if anyone could help me with finding out if I need a new stator or not. I’m pretty new to restoring antique fans. Quote
Derek Warnecke Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 You can search eBay for a CBB61 1.5uF 450VAC capacitor. This is my go-to replacement for 4-pole Emerson PSC motors. Quote
Ryan King Posted June 2, 2023 Author Posted June 2, 2023 Would a 2uF capacitor work? I had been directed that way but may have been told wrong Quote
Derek Warnecke Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 A 2uF will cause it to run a little too fast on Low and Medium, as well as increase power draw. Quote
Ryan King Posted June 3, 2023 Author Posted June 3, 2023 Thank you, I still have the issue of it not running though. Where is a good source of a wiring diagram of the whole thing? Quote
Derek Warnecke Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 The third diagram down on this page covers your fan: http://www.wkinsler.com/fans/emerson_fan_wiring_diagrams.htm Quote
Ryan King Posted June 3, 2023 Author Posted June 3, 2023 You wouldn’t happen to have photos of the switch all wired together would you? Quote
Lawrence Smith Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 They did have a 1.8 mfd capacitor that might work perfectly, the 1.5 is just a bit slower on startup. Ohm out your leads off the stator , the start & run both connect to the high speed of the coil. The capacitor is connected in line of the start lead between the coil & stator . Common goes to the line cord Quote
