Paul Michael
I'd been meaning to ask - it'a been down 2 or 3 days for me!
Steve Butler
I certainly hope we will regain access. I use it all the time for information that can’t be found anywhere else.
John Landstrom
Would be nice to have access to a server with all the old info/pics/etc available from the new site. Would be worth it to (don’t hurt me !) hire someone for the project and raise the dues a bit to cover it. Mark Olson
This link will bring you to a page that has everything except old forum access, as in the forum discussions themselves. https://www.fancollectors.org/info/restore.htm I hope that the old forum page will be restored for reference. It is a goshdarn shame that it has come to this. Edited June 12 by Mark Olson repaired swearing and typographical error 2

I just left an inquiry (voice mail) with Pamela Smith, who *appears* to maintain the servers NS3.spaceout.com and NS4.spaceout.com which from what I garner, host the domain for afcaforum.com, this after her website contact form was also NOT working for several days. . . 🤔 Edited June 16 by Paul Michael

Annie Hill
Probably not Russian hackers... but something to consider. Got an email out, awaiting reply...
Chad Smith
Hi everyone, I'm the guy who manages the server. I have the old forum back up and running again for now, but it is not a sustainable site. It was being hit hard by a very bad "denial of service" attack that was having an impact on the entire server...not just that old forum. That kind of activity will continue to happen...and most likely get worse. The old forum is running on decades old code and requires an old version of PHP that hasn't been in production for years. That site will go permanently offline at some point and there will be nothing that can be done about it. That's why we set up the new forum. If you still reference that old forum you really need to copy and paste or screenshot of whatever you want to do to download that information and move it over to the new forum. The new forum has been up and running for 2 years now and we will do our best to keep that old code running, but like I said, it is not sustainable on a permanent basis. Chad Is there any way to make a section on this forum called “old forum posts” or something that contains all of the data from the old forum? I’m just throwing out ideas lol another thing to mention is that waybackmachine.com is used to get access to old outdated pages. Maybe that would be a last resort for users that want to see old pages?
Lane Shirey
Again, I ask. Why can’t we take advantage of the very talented members and willing volunteers on this forum to move important stuff to this forum?. I’ve posted several times and offered my time to help with this project. Cutting and pasting for personal use is not the answer! Past suggestions about this from me and others have fallen on deaf ears. WHY??? There is a huge amount of invaluable restoration information there and many of us continue to reference it a lot. I get it, the old server and code is not sustainable. What I don’t get is why the board stands around with hand in pockets allowing the impending train wreck to happen. ANNIE AND THE BOARD… Let’s quickly assemble a project team with volunteers to get this job done before it’s too late! ANYBODY WITH ME ON THIS? Thanks for reading this
Jim Roadt
I kept an thread on my phone from the old forum that takes me to a Westinghouse tank or something. Once in there I can login with my old pass word and username and use the search bar to look up anything. If I use any other tab it takes me back to the new forum. That is how it works for me

Thanks for reading this Lane, There is a link that appears on the home menu page,of the website FANPEDIA,(same software as WIKI) when you click the link and put in the user ID and password, you find yourself in an "under construction" page. Jamie has asked, begged and pleaded for info to fill that page. But his request for info has, "fallen on deaf ears." The old forum info is indeed invaluable but it can't be moved with a waive of a magic wand. So, yeah , let's assemble a team with volunteers to research what it will take and the costs involved to get this this done... I think you should be the lead on this...😄
Mark Olson
I am experimenting with "wget" to see how much I can save from the old site. For some reason, unbeknownst to me, I can not get an answer from anyone who should know, to my question: "How much drive space do I need?" Frank McCormack
This link gets me into the old forum https://afcaforum.com/forum5/ When I went in it and entered my login and password it did send me back to the new forum, I then went back to this link and got in. Hope this helps

I think you should be the lead on this...😄 I’ll be glad to help, but unfortunately I lack the expertise to know functionally how this can happen or the time to lead the project. I may be oversimplifying this, but it seems that we should be able to create a thread on the new forum called “Archives” or something, then copy and paste the entire threads from the old forum that have some kind of importance. There’s a lot there, so I suggest you assign a time period to each volunteer to go through and filter out all the nonessential banter that happens on our forum. these volunteers would need temporary permissions on both sites to navigate, edit, copy and paste threads. I don’t think that EVERYTHING is worthy of being moved to the new forum. There’s a lot of fun to read, but not useful posts in the old one. I think to justify being moved, the thread should have some historical or restoration value. I propose we start by asking for volunteers, then if we have a small group assembled, set up a Skype call to define some guidelines. Then post for more volunteers. I would volunteer to be part of the team to do the grunt work. Jamie would have to be in that meeting as well as the other web admins, to help set the parameters and define permissions. I propose that we post something in the next magazine. Maybe an article

Hi Mark, if you really plan on saving everything from the old forum, at minimum, you would need 27,634 MB. That is the amount of disk space currently allocated to the old forum in our server.
Mark Olson
Hi Jamie, I have enough space. One problem I am having is that wget does not seem to work with java script. Since I am not versed in JS, I may have to concede and accept defeat. Edited June 21 by Mark Olson
Jamie Horner
For those of you that might be interested in assisting with moving information from our old forum to the new wiki, below are some screen shots of pages I have created on the new wiki software. I am looking to have the History for each Fan Manufacturer (in a long list that I pulled from the old website - I can provide the list so the info from the old site can be sorted by manufacturer. I believe this is the basic sort that we need to do with the info from the old forum), and then a table with a list of fans manufactured by that company listing the Date, Model/Fan Type, and Short Description. Eventually each Model/Type would have its own page with information specific to that model as well, but that's me thinking much farther ahead than even just getting this first part accomplished. Just pulling the info from the old forum and sorting it into manufacturer categories is going to be a ton of work, and that's not even counting the work that will be needed to reorganize and reformat it all for inclusion into the new wiki. But we have to start somewhere.
