Louis Luu Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 Jim Roadt sent this interesting messy scan. I'll attempt to fix it. Thanks, I needed a break anyway from that magic unicorn project. Quote

Louis Luu Posted June 17, 2023 Author Posted June 17, 2023 (edited) I've patched it and shrunk the drill hole so you can open it up. Will need to smooth and even it out. Edited June 17, 2023 by Louis Luu Quote
Louis Luu Posted June 17, 2023 Author Posted June 17, 2023 I'll double check the measurements later. Quote
Steve Cunningham Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 I only know of one other. It’s a 10’” model. Quote
Chris Jacobsen Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 Nice, how did you guys patch that up? I have a scanner but it is pretty hard to patch up missing pixels and the texture. Also not sure how to scan two sides at one, using image stitching? Quote

All I did was bridge the gap and fill in the missing pieces/patch/join. From there, I converted into a solid and digitally sculpt it. I wish I own a scanner but don't know how to use it. Most of my work is done by drawing from scratch. I've gotten fairly good at it. Sometimes, it is painful, so I just take a break. Other times, I see it as a challenge/riddle/puzzle and my head just starts figuring out how to before doing it. Most of it is really just trial and error. The more trial and error...the better you eventually get. Chris, what scanner are you using and is it affordable. Quote
Chris Jacobsen Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 Hi Lewis, we have 3D scanners in our lab. I have used a Cognex DSMax for a number of scans but we also have 2 camera 3D capturing which I have not used much. There is also the DS1100 and DS1300 red laser and the DS820 which is higher resolution and blue laser for smaller details. I would think the 1100 or 1300 is good enough and would smooth out defects. The sensors themselves are obtainable vie Ebay, not sure the price these days but lots of indistries use them. The trick is the software to run it is VisionPro which is not very cheap (needs a license key) but I use a framegrabber board thst has the license built in. The data is saved in pointcloud format. I have never really tried to manipulate the pointcloud but I am sure it is possible. I was just curious what software you are using, maybe I can experiment a bit. Quote

Chris Jacobsen Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 Cool, thanks I started playing with that a month or two ago for a 3D printer. Will see if it can import our pointcloud into it. If so that would be real fun. Quote
Louis Luu Posted July 1, 2023 Author Posted July 1, 2023 Here you go Jim....freshly printed/casted in brass. Quote
Paul Pierson Posted July 9, 2023 Posted July 9, 2023 Great fan. I had two of them back in day. One was the early green one like yours and the other was a black on which was a bit later. Both of mine were 10” and I know of several other 10” among collectors. I’ve never heard of a 12” before. Ps: there’s a video on YouTube of my earlier green one. Quote

Jim Roadt Posted July 15, 2023 Posted July 15, 2023 Cleaned up well enough to leave original green color and patina Quote
Jim Roadt Posted July 15, 2023 Posted July 15, 2023 Thanks to Louis Luu the connecting arm appears like it fits perfectly ( just need to drill out a little) Quote
Paul Pierson Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 There you have it!! It’s the first I’ve seen. congrats!! 10” fans are far more common than 12” in Europe in my experience, 16” are almost unheard of . Quote
