Evan Atkinson Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 (edited) This Father’s Day weekend was rewarding, to say the least. I found a SBSC Jandus C-frame with the AB motor, (square vent holes, chained centrifugal start switch), sadly missing the original oscillation movement and housing. BUT all is not lost! I’m looking forward to installing one of Louis Luu’s awesome, newly-made gearboxes on it. And I have some questions since this happens to be the first Jandus in the collection: I notice the center of the blade hub looks blunted instead of domed. Is this typical? Is it correct for these blade hubs to have two set screws, one between two hub fingers angled forward, and another on the neck? Upon first glance, I thought someone had made a horrible fix….? Are these gearboxes “Always On”? Or is there a way to disable the movement without actually removing the box? Is the fan supposed to have a bottom cover? Or is it open, like Emersons? I notice the brass plaque riveted to the end of the C, says “Direct Current”. Neat and pretty weird! Do we think they were probably using up leftover parts? Or could this originally have been a ball-motor DC C-frame and the motor was changed out? What year is it? Thanks for the help, in advance! Edited June 18, 2024 by Evan Atkinson 1 Quote
Russ Huber Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 There was a DC ball motor intended originally for that C-Frame. 1 Quote
Russ Huber Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 Typically, one set screw in the rear hub. I haven't seen them all, but I have never seen a hub shaped like that. 1 Quote
Russ Huber Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 The good news is you can easily ignore and work around all the above if you can get the gears and drive. 🙂 Quote
Martin Kowalski Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 I have a question: i keep hearing about a "chained centrifugal start switch". Can anyone share a photo of what that actually looks like? Quote
Michael Rathberger Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 There's many, many more knowledgeable people than me, but that blade looks like a gyro blade. The second screw locks the main screw, or at least it does on mine. I would theorize the factory or some enterprising shop reconditioned DC to AC fans at sometime during their lifetimes. I also have a C frame with a gyro blade, centrifugal motor, no oscillating parts but mine has a 15" blade. Quote
