Mike Morris
Brush inspection ports, I hadn't considered that. Makes a lot more sense, couldn't wrap my brain around more brushes, but had never seen one of these ac/dc and multi frequency fans before. Not surprising they used an existing part for the cap/cover. The vents in the front motor housing like Jim's fan #1 , my fan and Anthony's former fan were deleted and inspection ports added to 2nd generation and beyond. I haven't been able to pin a date on any version of these fans. Other than what Jim and Russ have provided I have found virtually nothing that would date these GEC orbital "gyro" fans other than 1926 and later. Still, I know a lot more than I did a few days ago. Thanks
Jim Dunn
Hi Michael.Going by Russ’s research they are from about 1924 - 1925 onwards and proof of 1927 below Fan No3 has the patent of 24618 and stamped 27 for the year of 1927 I presume. You can see in the 1926 catalogue image of the “Gyro”Patent dates identified 210476, 208530 and 207655. I guess the gyro fans were produced later into the 30’s but sorry I don’t have any documentation of the total timeline.

Jim Dunn
I have 1 x 16 inch Gyro and it’s pretty much the identical as the Fan No 1 in the 12 inch with multiple frequencies.
