World traveling wore out junk.

I got this wore out thing it didn’t work ,the speed coil is gone, just the switch. The story is it came out of an old house in Shanghai, was used in Hong Kong before being used in the US where it played out after years running on 110v yet slower.I got it running ,but it was making a lot of noise that turned out to be the bearings front and back spinning inside the case.Someone buggered the keepers.Their just like GE floating bearings. The Oscillator didn’t work.I don’t think its supposed to be continuous but I took it apart and at least got it working.Got the bearings snugged up.
These fans weigh nothing! All aluminum with very thin brass cage and blade.Flimsy actually.Polish everything and that would be something.

It’s a small 12”.

I’m going to tear it down again as I think a bearing got loose when I banged the blade on.I will show what makes it tick.Dont lose the tiny bearing and spring in the oscillator !

Im running it direct to motor with a cheap step up converter which gets hot over time. The converter not the fan.Amps are good ,just needs a better power source.I was actually going to throw it away as I have no affection for it.The fan and the converter.Just wanted to see if I could get it going.Thats a Whiz blade for testing as the blade needs work.

Here’s the inside. It came with wave spring washers on each side.I assume factory. They are very thin and flex easily.Keeps any slack out..I added a couple of fiber washers. The retaining ring for the bearing was distorted as you can see in first pic, so I put it on the appropriate size socket and hammered it back in shape.I think I got it seated this time.Floating bearings and a felt oil ring.

Its running much quieter now.
If I go back into oscillator I will show.

I had decided to give it a chance and just go with one speed. So went  on to remove the brushed on paint.Laquer thinner ,Goofoff wouldn’t phase it.Old stuff.I scraped it all of with a razor blade ,as sanding would create possible lead dust.It was sand blasted at one time so I started sanding and polishing .I then decided to see if I could straighten up the blade.I got it pretty much trued ,and no matter how much I took off the opposite blade within reason, no luck?I took a closer look and one blade had been replaced with really thin flimsy brass. It took a huge washer I taped on to even it.So now that I sanded one blade to try and even it out ,even say brazing a washer , I will have two light or heavy wings to deal with. Its just not worth the trouble.

Remember those old vibrating football games.Thats what it does across the desk. The video was when it was slowing  down.
