Louis Luu Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 (edited) It was about the size of a Porter No. 4. I was in love with it. Feet and rotor will be next. Edited July 24, 2024 by Louis Luu Quote

Russ Huber Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 Page 182 when you open the link. Iona manufacturing Co. was established in 92 manufacturing electrical specialties. Fan motors are not mentioned in my scans. They may have outsourced it for their product line. Boston with Its Points of Interest - Google Books Quote
Steve Rockwell Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 Iona Manufacturing Company..... precursor to Anchor Electric Co. of Boston. By the time Russ' excerpt came into publication, Iona was already subsumed, and some parts from the various contributory companies were sold through Anchor. Most of Marshall's patents were assigned to Marshall-Sanders and dealt mainly with lighting, switches, receptacles, insulation. He produced a number of machine designs over a period of years. I've seen no reference to motors at all, but Louis' motor has to be '92-'95... unless Anchor Electric chose to continue using the Iona name ( a distinct possibility against which I'd nonetheless bet)... Note the 336 Congress St. address being retained for Anchor's factory..... https://books.googleusercontent.com/books/content?req=AKW5Qae5wy67QyK2EFqx187lTHjzQFTynkPKVH45-4bJZiEvi8QDLCtOiCP1w7lccSdqw05haWc4e1coVIJie9AuFl89m3rpjkf8VfEmP4PCxzAMLdw_horR8jbUQpQWBU1s4MRK0WbVKzUNyDlI1imRMseWT9JjXTp83kvjqHAzXVf-m23z68v0jgBuRAplMQPKZFa-jKMOqH-PYqYTEfDDNTiN__2a4_nIKRKUqAEyYZ3m_LJei-EusvgFdaTJa-ZtMMMF1ff6 1894 1895 1896 1897 1898 1899 1900 1901 1906 2 Quote

Louis Luu Posted July 25, 2024 Author Posted July 25, 2024 Got some feedback from David Cherry....he gave me some suggestions which I appreciate. Fixed the following proportion. While the original one did have small feet....it did look rather silly. I size the feet proportional to the motor making sure the angle was free from the blade when installed. The thing I did not like from last night's work was the placement and size of the Lion's head. I also made sure the head was somewhat round like the original while maintaining the proportion to the feet. Then I made sure it was positioned correctly. Quote
Bill Dunlap Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 I thought it was strange. Five claws on those feet. Cats and dogs have four claws and a dew claw on front feet. Bears have five claws. But those claws are likely from some mythological beast. How many of these will you make, Louis? I'm interested. Quote

You are correct. Anatomically, there should be five digits. The 5th claw on dogs and cats is repositioned as a dew claw. I've seen both. Horses/mules have their toes fused and you only see two. I like the five digit and decided to go with that instead for the paws. I have not decided on how many to make. Most of the stuff I draw, I make for myself since they are not really antique. If you want, I can look into printing you one. Just got done redoing the motor with some feedback from David Cherry. Quote
George Durbin Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 (edited) At the Hemingway estate in Florida all the cat's that stay there all have 5 or 6 toes and they are allowed to breed to keep the line going... Sooooo... There's that! 😁😁 Geo... Edited July 26, 2024 by George Durbin 2 Quote
