Daniel Herczeg
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and while I will most certainly not be typing five thousand words in this post, I do hope to explain these images. My grandmother worked in several clothing factories for several decades, and each time they closed down, she tried to salvage as much as she could, including some sewing machines. She still has about a dozen in her basement. Two, however, managed to come into my mother's acquisition, and she uses them quite frequently, as they are very reliable machines. The singer was a freebie from Fan Fair 2024. When I got it, it was quite dirty, and I was worried that there was only a lot of rust hidden under the dirt, but for a free fan, it ended up cleaning up quite nicely. It came with a Lidolier switch, which I lengthened using some pull chain from a Litex Piedmont. I hung it up on the wall, it and both looks and runs quite nicely. The whole reason I did this was because the contractors who built our house didn't plan things out very well, leaving my mother's sewing room without a ceiling electrical box, and therefore no possibility of having a ceiling light or ceiling fan. The only lights in the room are the ones on my mother's sewing machine and a pedestal lamp on a switched outlet, and until now, no fans to speak of. Both my mother and I are very happy with this installation, as picking and hanging a fan in the sewing room has been a priority for a few months now, but we both knew that this fan was the one when we saw it.
