Christian Kasprzyk Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Its about time I start actually showing off some of my more special fans on here. This one I got from one of the teachers back in high school. Even though I was a student, I basically was a co teacher with him. I had taken over the schools metal shop and did just about everything to help tech-ed run smoothly. Because of all of the help and work I put in, he gave me this old GE AUU, he got it back in college at Kansas State in the 90s. He saw it and thought it was cool so he took it. Spent 30 years in his garage attic. Still, It’s in pretty decent shape besides some scratches. I had to get it apart to replace the head wire as it was pretty darn frayed. After that and a bit of oil, it runs fairly decent. Also had to knock it back in place so it turned properly. It will probably need new bearings at some point as it still doesn't run as smooth as it should. But I cannot complain. I am unsure if the cord on it is original, looks like GE but I don’t know if these older ones had them. I would definitely like to know the date on this one. I assume late 1910s or 1920’s. As I am sure you can tell it’s in that classic green color they painted a lot of fans. I seriously do love this fan. Its one of my oldest, we don't get much in Minnesota so I am very excited to go to a meet one of these years and eventually get myself some nice older fans. I do have a video somewhere on my youtube channel, FANtastic Fans. Hope you all enjoy! Quote
James Lawson Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Form AK is 1930. The blade is painted aluminum. The thicker font GE logo first appeared in 1927 and remains virtually unchanged through this day. It was cool for a former teacher to have given you the fan. These were built like tanks and are virtually indestructible. Believe it or not, a lot of these were still in regular use in the '80s and '90s when your teacher probably received it as a hand-me-down for college. Quote
Christian Kasprzyk Posted September 6, 2024 Author Posted September 6, 2024 Thanks for the info on it! Yeah he was a really nice guy. He also gave me numerous sets of speakers, stereos and tools too during my time there. I am not surprised these were still used so late, I got an old westinghouse that was phased out in the 90s that came from the Mayo Clinic. These old fans definitely last way longer than anything new. This fan was actually not even a hand me down, he was clearing out an old classroom at Kansas State when he found it in a pile somewhere. I am unsure if he ever actually used the fan. I will have to ask him next time we talk. Quote
Michael Bouthiller Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 I also got a fan from a old high school teacher of mine as well Quote
Paul Carmody Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 This is all I ever received from a teacher! Quote
Christian Kasprzyk Posted September 8, 2024 Author Posted September 8, 2024 Oh I have had my fair share of punishments too! Quote
