Bought 52 fans at local auction. This centruy was in the mix.

This was in the group of fans I bought at auction. I tried to refurbish one once and it fell apart in pieces in my hand. Its running so I was thinking of keeping the head together and doing a paint job on it all together. I have the other one I tried to fix so I have some parts to donate if needed, but as far as the rotor and head I will just leave it as is. I can not remember and the parts are at the other shop. Is the base zinc or steel? Any other parts zinc other than the and I have a good one left over from the other fan. I know it is like working with glass and its running. Thanks for any advice.head? I know the round cap is zinc

 The only pot metal on this one is the rear motor housing which contains the oscillator housing & gears. Where was the auction ??

Yep I go there a lot. It was a heck of a place to get a bargain before covid. But when the shut down came they went from you had to be there and hold up a number to on line. After that it was much harder to get a bargain.

I was up at 8AM watching the auctions end, till about 5PM. This auction house does OK but they don't take detailed photos. But to be fair this was a large auction, with a lot of thing being sold. I bought one lot of 8 fans that was cheap but mostly parts fans. But there was a nice Zero fan, and a nice parts Emerson 27646 that has a lot of good parts on it. It was 15 for the lot so cheap parts.

Here is one, a 24048, too bad it isn't a 24068 LOL! But still a nice brass and brass DC Emmy.  I was bidding on 18 fans in 3 auctions that day, very busy. I lost some and others say 'may have won' so not sure on things yet.

It helped with a lot of deals because some didn't even have any kind of back view of the fan so it was a big gamble.

I go to Doc's to buy fans for parts and restoration. Right now I have finished everything I had. Its nice to have projects ready to go. Still going to Doc's but I have projects in line. Some of these fans will not be restored or can be restored. I bought on group of 8 fans for $15. Most of them are parts. But there was one Emerson 29646 that has no cage but everything else is there including the gearbox and brass blade. So maybe combining that one with one or two of the other 646 I can get some good working fans out of it. There was a Lively air in that lot also that is beat up, cage bad, broken blade, but a gear for the oscillator would cost me $20 plus shipping give or take a bit. One of the JRs has a cracked head housing. I can weld that up and if not I have one in my parts stock I keep. But yep that is going to be a lot of work. I ordered 150 feet of bulk wire. In my buy there is an emerson 29648, 14646, and one with no badge but it looks like a 29646.

A 24068 was never made. That would be a 16” six wing. There never was a 6 wing 16” made for DC

Is that in Emerson production data? According to the serial register, DC seems to have been skipped on the 12 series

I asked about production data because I don't know that everything Emerson produced appears in that record, like the Cutler Desk Emersons, for example. They have special bases that were never used again.

You want a statement from Emerson that they never produced a six blade 16” DC?

Lots of production data available. You should look into it.

That was quite the auction, I was watching several things in that. Always fun to see what things go for.

I bought a few other things. a couple of the glass western neg.. I also bought and most likely paid too much but I really liked it.  The American Soda Fountain Co. silver sign. I used my light box to make a digital neg. and photo escape to turn them to positives. Also a lot of several fountain pens, two of which were Parkers, one 51 and 21. Both where fine as is. Just a cleaning. That was stupid cheap, the lot was 10 bucks. A parker 51 alone is worth $50 or more, and three really neat original WW2 German photos of soldiers in Russia.

That would be a neat Frankenemerson to build, bet the DC motor on the 048 would handle the 2 extra wings just fine.
