Tim Babcock
from the local auction. I can not make out the model. looks like 164 but the 6 is dropped if it is a 6. Made in the UP of Michigan before it moved south. Unless they used old badges after they moved.
Russ Huber
No clamshells made in Cairo. Your type 164 was introduced in 1918 with adjustable speed rheostat. It was manufactured one more year in Menominee in 19. The type 164 shared the market with the type 150 plug in fan 1918-19.
Tim Babcock
Thanks for the info. I see this model selling or at least asking from 500 to 800. Not sure if I should sell it or try to refurbish it. My fear is if i tear into it and it needs parts I doubt I will find any and if I do would it be cost prohibitive? I like the fan, Menominee is not far from where I grew up. We hunted in Land O Lakes Wisconsin/Michigan. That town one side you were charged deposits on your beer and soda the other you were not. But trying to make up my mind on what to do with this guy. Thanks for any guidance.

I sold mine for around $
Russ Huber
Lots of plug in type 150 Menominee clamshells surfaced. The earliest type 150 models are with grease screw downs and exposed brush holders. Not as many type 164 Menominee models with functional rheostat. The type 150 was on the market 1916-19. The type 164... 1918-19.

But if your motor and rheostat are functional, or intact and can be made functional, that is desirable fan. Restored would make it even more desirable. Far more type 150 models. Tim Babcock
I tried to get an OHMs reading on the coils. I got nothing then it hit me, this is a commutator fan with brushes. I need to connect the two brush connection points to get a circuit. I do get a reading now. So hopefully its good to go with some new friction tape. I also checked the switch coil. Seems to work fine. Looks exactly like yours. Edited September 17 by Tim Babcock

Those images came from past post on the old forum. I am improving manipulating the new website old forum search. It is what it is, and credit to those who made the old forum search possible, it is much better than losing the old forum all together. The old forum search engine for me was lightning fast while it lasted.
Tim Babcock
I have it all painted and back together. Its running good. I do need a source for a round brush. One was fine, about 1 inch left, the other was about 1/2 inch or a bit less. Would like to have a back up if the short one fails. the size is .25 inch round. 6.35mm round. I either find only rectangle types or the square type. Nothing in round and the couple places I do they want to sell them in lots of 20 or more. Thanks for any help.
