Tim Babcock Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 She is running and needs some TLC but seems to be all there. Quote
Russ Huber Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 Let's see the back of the fan, please. Quote
Tim Babcock Posted September 14, 2024 Author Posted September 14, 2024 The auction site did not have photo of the back of this one. I pick up tomorrow and will try to take a photo. Quote
Russ Huber Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 Ok Tim, we recently had a post on the transitional 24xxx models. This 24666 is one of 4 possible variants. Which one is it? 1 or 2 or 3 or 4? Quote

But there is a clue your 24666 is not original and may have had a cast hub originally that fractured. The 4th 24666 variant would have a stamped steel blade hub with BLACK finish. Now, will the adjustment case under your gearbox be the original ball detent (Ratchet Case)? 🙂 Quote
Tim Babcock Posted September 14, 2024 Author Posted September 14, 2024 I will get photos of it soon. I have a lot to pick up and take to the shop. Quote
Tim Babcock Posted September 14, 2024 Author Posted September 14, 2024 What a day. Took most of the day getting to the auction house, load and truck the bulk to my shop in Eureka. I brought home the first 9 I am going to work on. Here is the back of the 666 fan. Seems to be all there. Quote
Russ Huber Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 If you restore the 24666 you simply paint the stamped hub black and you have a complete #4 later variant. 🙂 Quote
Tim Babcock Posted September 15, 2024 Author Posted September 15, 2024 Thanks does it come apart like the standard 29646? Quote

Be very careful with removal and disassembly of the ratchet adjust case (ball detent). When you remove the bottom plate keep in mind it is pot metal. And when you remove the screws and the bottom plate keep in mind there is a spring under compression and bearing ball underneath. Do it slow and take precaution for the spring and bearing to go "BOING" into never-never land. 🙂 Quote

Tim Babcock Posted September 21, 2024 Author Posted September 21, 2024 So I am almost finished with this fan. I just need to polish the blades and paint the cage. A few hours work. The one thing is that it sounds almost the same on all three speeds. Not sure if there is a short in the coil or if this type of fan shows more of a difference with the blade on and the resistance of the blade spinning. Quote
Tim Babcock Posted September 24, 2024 Author Posted September 24, 2024 I finished the fan, the speed coil I think is shorted, works on all three speeds but no speed change. The other thing not sure about is there is no Amps on the label. It runs 2 amps on start up and then drops to 1.37 running. that does not seem bad for this size fan, but I don't know. Maybe someone here can tell me what the Amps should be. Not sure if I am gong to mess with the speed coil, at least right now. Quote
Malcolm MacGregor Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 Try contacting Thomas Newcity on this website with a PM. He is the master of Emerson speed coils. He does beautiful work at a reasonable price. He has done 3 speed coils for me and 100% satisfaction 👌 Quote
