Mark McCormick
As found, all original circa 1916 Polar Cub (first year as A.C. Gilbert ?) with original box. Runs smooth with classic brushed fan sound. What made this extra unique was the hand written note in the box from the original owner. Love the box labels and features...especially that the fan only costs $0.01 for six hours of running...and most important it is "impossible to get shocked" 😜 Here is the video link of it running....enjoy!! :

Trevor Andersen
Yes this is same design as the Mysto. I think after the first year it was made the company name/branding/headquarters evolved. Gilbert's original company was Mysto Manufacturing and provided equipment and supplies for magicians. I believe that design was made for 3 years and the last two have the A.C. Gilbert name on it after they moved to New Haven. They developed the Polar Cub brand at that point. So essentially it is a new tag put on Mystos that were likely already in inventory. I think it is the first branded Polar Cub. I wonder if anyone has ever seen a Mysto Manufacturing box or if they existed.

James Lawson
Very nice! You don't see 1st gen Polar Cubs every day, especially one with its original box and with what appears to be close to zero miles on the odometer!
Dennis Back
A great find with the original box! I love A.C. Gilbert, as I collected American Flyer trains. if you want to watch a neat movie about his beginnings as a manufacturer, check out the movie “The Man Who Saved Christmas.” You can watch it free on Freevee TV. I don’t remember any fans in it, but if you like old Gilbert toys, you’ll get a kick out of it. It’s a fun movie you can watch with the kids or grandkids. 1
