The cage was pretty beat up so I fabricated a new one.

Cage is not original to that fan, I copied a fan pictured on the web. SEE picture 345808882_ECK2.thumb.jpg.281635e635db910e2cd6a8aa4ec0f036.jpg

Bobby:  the blue tag against that creamy liquid black body is simply stunning. I do indeed have an ECK (side gear) which was restored by another member. The tag isn't as bright blue as yours though.

Cage is a copy of Toilet Bowl Oscillator not ECK which had front and back rings made of round stock brass.

Bobby, it is a Diehl styling guard rebadged Eck before Eck came out with their own AC in 13. You have hard work into that guard on yours, I bet someone would be interested in buying your guard and then you can repop the correct 9 wire guard? Or, you can just love it the way it is.....nice'n shiney. 🙂

Why is Bobby's Guard different from the one on my two Eck fans which I am sure are original other than a front oiler also on the rear bearing?   Did Eck sell his fan with a cage like is on the fan?

Steve- are you certain the cage is original and not a repo on the AC Eck My understanding was the earlier AC Ecks with BRASS cages had EIGHT (8) wires, the later SRTEEL cages had NINE (9) wires. . . 🤔

I wonder what ECK called the model/style. Maybe a STICK MOUNT?

Yes, I am confident my fans' two cages are originals due to details that match each other as well as the two guards pictured below of fans that are not mine.   Note the cage ring connectors; soldered on the DC fan and crimped on the AC, same as on my pair.

Bobby,

Possession is 9/10ths the law. It appears you have the upper hand in that department. 🙂  Eck guards following that 10 issue date guard patent was the norm until the steel guard. Don't let Steveo's correctness get you down. 🙂

If the pressure gets too heavy from the correctness people, see if you can squeak another guard wire in there to make 9. 🙂

Thanks Steve, I believe! After I posted that I took a deep dive, and I think my scrambled brain made that confusion.

I have my times when correctness is not what I want but that is rare.   Below are two GE fans and two guards, not all on the correct year.  A bit of swapping around to make the best looking pancakes.

Below:  top fan is an original 1898 pancake and guard.

Next fan is an 1899 with the 1898 model guard installed.

Last fan is the 1899 with its original cage.

I so like the look of the 1899 with the large open ring 1898 cage that I had Ted make me a new 1898 cage which I have on the 1899 trunniong while keeping the original 1899 guard packed away carefully for the day when being correct becomes more important to me.

David - you don't have an ECK!??? You *MUST* get one!

As far as I've seen, their tags had a red or blue background.

Why stop at just one?
