Turning linear motion into rotary motion usually involves a crankshaft and rod. Not sure what is going on here. There's an alternative too. It's called a sprag clutch, or one way bearing. You can get the same result with a sprag clutch and flywheel. Plus it has the advantage of having a specifically designated direction of rotation.
