Hey Jim.I believe it to be the real m’coy. I have had mine over 10 years which is identical.  It had the original finish.

I don’t recall the manufacturer. Russ you are onto something with the cage… a striking resemblance.

I think you have the manufacturer pinned down, that being early 30s Knapp Monarch.

I think the K-M motors and cages were ordered and the final product was assembled by a third party. I'm not sure who it was, though. Maybe there's some period advertising out there that would give a better clue?
