Russ Huber Posted January 7 Posted January 7 I don't know where you dug up these images, but you're looking at the 1903 gyro fixture introduction model yet to surface to the best of my knowledge. This fixture was on the market until 05 season. 1 Quote

Steve Rockwell Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 (edited) Back to round motors, the actual subject here... https://new.afcaforum.com/index.php?/topic/21409-ball-motor-jandus-gyrofan/#comment-166651 Below is the earliest advertisement I've yet to find: 23 Apr 1903 Edited January 8 by Steve Rockwell 1 Quote
Steve Rockwell Posted January 8 Author Posted January 8 By this time in a typical thread Jim Kovar has discovered the original photo, so that's one further aspect of the artifact which catches my interest, its anonymity; this mens outfitters store has fascinated me the last several days... I've been checking out the original, but Google search yesterday turned up this version, accessible and zoomable to all... Besides two Gyrofans, I count four Peerlesses, and other fans are seemingly in storage in this room, not visible in this image. The fans' bases have been shimmed to provide tilt... The focus and the detail are enviable even by today's standards-- the entire pic is an eyeful. https://artsandculture.google.com/asset/william-richardson-s-haberdashery-general-electric-company/5wHlH1e9Nn5B2w?hl=en Quote

Russ Huber Posted January 8 Posted January 8 1906 introduction fixture showing both GE cake and Jandus roundball motors. Quote
Steve Rockwell Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 Late 1904 & 1905 G.E. was doing developmental experimentation and one item produced was this unit. Though I don't know the idea's source, considering its similarity to Jandus desk fans made me wonder whether it was possibly being offered as an item to be marketed under Jandus' name using G.E.'s scale of production to make it all profitable... In all these threads I've reviewed I don't remember seeing a photo of the insides of a Jandus ball motor, does anyone have such a pic to compare it with the G.E. experimental motor? (which did not go into production so far as I know...) Quote

Steve Rockwell Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 (edited) Thanks for posting images Russ-- it's great to see how the inside appears. I found something comparable, dated Feb 1906... Do you have notes concerning the serial number or approximate d.o.b. for that fan in your hand? Edited January 10 by Steve Rockwell Quote

The serials really don't offer much unless they were compiled into a database. Quote

Steve Rockwell Posted January 11 Author Posted January 11 (edited) Score Nicholas Denny. Up above you can find what the Jandus & Peerless fans replaced... though I suppose it's possible the two to the left are still connected to power... Edited January 12 by Steve Rockwell Quote

Russ Huber Posted January 17 Posted January 17 8 hours ago, Steve Rockwell said: The switch to GE motors was a maintenance decision for the AC gyros. Jandus was not tooled to build AC brushless self-starting induction motors, thus Bernie outsourced them. The GE AC self-starting motors did not need brush replacement or have worn commutators/armature to replace. The DC gyros had to be manufactured as they were from the start. DC motors have brushes. 1 Quote
