Nick Lovisolo Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I am making a new topic for this as this will be multiple fans and they arent all one brand. First up is this Polar cub type C. Anyone have a date rage for this one? It's in rough shape but it does have the bear cub playing with a fan on the front. This one is just about restored but does anyone have any idea how to get brush caps for this fan? Quote
James Lawson Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Model C came out in 1917 per the January 1917 issue of Electrical World. Not sure if you were aware, but A.C. Gilbert, the company that made Polar Cub fans, was also responsible for the Erector set. 1 Quote

That one is a type H and I use it when it gets warm in my room. Quote
Nick Lovisolo Posted March 7 Author Posted March 7 Sorry about the double post here. But here is the final results to the type C fan. Quote

James Lawson Posted March 9 Posted March 9 That's something that was cobbled together, likely many years ago. Some of us call such an item a "Frankenfan". The only real value these fans have is the sum of the parts, if anyone needs them. Quote

It didn't look very good to me. Quote
Nick Lovisolo Posted March 10 Author Posted March 10 My father is adament that the badge means something on the motor. Is the motor correct with the badge or no? Quote
Russ Huber Posted March 10 Posted March 10 15 minutes ago, Nick Lovisolo said: My father is adament that the badge means something on the motor. Is the motor correct with the badge or no? The motor tag is correct for the Emerson motor. The Emerson motor does not appear to be fan duty. Unfortunately, the motor is not correct for what it is mounted on, or the blade with what appears to have shaved wings mounted on the motor. The fan base and its pivot and motor mounting appear to belong to Robbins & Myers. The switch is missing out of the base. The oscillation linkage is missing. The blade appears to have been a Robbins & Myers blade. OrangePeel Antiques Vintage 1920s Emerson Electric Cast Iron Oscillating Fan w/ Brass Blades HELP! Fan is in good condition! There are no major damages, however does have minor scratches and scuffs. There is minor surface rust. Paint is chipping away. Power cord has been spliced. Bottom mechanism is missing. Lane Shirey Posted March 10 Posted March 10 If you pay the club dues annually and join the AFCA you’ll have access to our archives. If you want to learn about fans, that’s the way to go. You can then research any type of fan you come across without having to post here asking members to identify them. Also have you considered that the eBay listings that you’re posting here might negatively affect someone who’s actually bidding on it? Quote

I did not think about that and that's my bad. I will refrain from posting ebay listings in the future. Quote
James Lawson Posted March 10 Posted March 10 7 hours ago, Todd Adornato said: Which eBay listing are you referring to? The only one I see here is a completed auction listing? It's a completed listing and it's something that most collectors wouldn't have placed a bid on unless there was a part there they needed. I don't really understand not sharing auction links. It's not something I've run across in any of my other hobbies, and believe me I have several. We've shared information, whoever wanted to bid placed their bid or loaded their snipe, then we let the chips fall where they may. Is the fan world really that competitive? Quote
Nick Lovisolo Posted March 11 Author Posted March 11 So this here is the Polar Cub that I currently use on my desk. It is a type H that came out very well with a patent of 1925. I believe this is in the mid to late 1920s and I like it. 1 Quote

I dunno, but I don’t see any reason why a link to a completed auction - that is, it was over before the link was posted - is a big deal. Quote
James Lawson Posted March 11 Posted March 11 The Polar Cub model H came out in 1924. It was sold through at least the end of 1925, possibly longer. Quote

Interesting. I was thinking given the patent it was sold from 1925 on for afew years. Didnt expect it to be prior. Quote
James Lawson Posted March 12 Posted March 12 The '25 patent is a later production run. I want to say the earlier runs of the model H had a 1921 patent on them. I'm sure somebody can confirm. Quote
