I am a new member and need help with first rewire. Am not sure how to test windings on 3 leads coming from motor. Head wire from switch is 2 wire? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks..Don

Hi Don, welcome.

The head wire is from the switch/choke to the motor. Test each wire to the other. The sum of the two lower readings should be equal to the highest reading. from there, you deduce the common between start and run, the start winding should be higher resistance than the run winding, and as stated, should add up to the resistance of the two windings in series. Also check for any reading from a wire to the motor frame, any reading indicates leakage, it should be OL or infinite.

Edit: this should be posted in pre-1950
