Thanks for the picture series. I know when I first tried to figure out how to remove the GE retention ring and bearings that I had to hunt around for it. This is great!

I thought you're supposed to take a like diameter pipe, cut out three notches leaving legs to engage the slots, drill a transverse hole through the far end of the pipe, stick a bar through, engage slots, and turn! 🤔🤦🏽‍♂️ Oops!

I remember having to figure my way around this years ago. I was sitting there frustrated eyeballing the bearing retainer and finally a bulb went off.

It is not specific to BMY motors. The housing above is actually a GE Round back housing I had in the pile. Glad to see the method can help others.

The tips of your needle nose pliers need to be small enough to fit into the slots. If yours are too big, you could buy a cheap needle nose pliers and shave the tips on a grinding wheel to fit the slots.

My first GE bearing removal was a two star, same method. On one, I had to use a punch with a small end, and tap it with a hammer because it wouldn’t break loose even after using solvent and trying a heat gun to melt the grease to no avail. But every other time using your demonstrated technique has been a charm!
