Doug Wendel
Years ago I bought wool wicking felt from Scottie McClymonds. It was really good stuff, but I ran out. I've tried the McMaster-Carr stuff. It had weird ridges, and it was flacid and mushy. I don't have much confidence in it maintaining a connection from the oil well to the bearing. I just ordered some of the 3/16" medium density felt from Durofelt and am hoping it will be better. What are you all doing for wicking material? Paul Michael
Not to hijack post - but—how abut BRAIDED wicks??? Original on some European fans . . . . Any source for those? Edited August 30 by Paul Michael
Dennis Long
I just replenished my wick supply by ordering the "Wick Kit" from Vintage Wire and Supply. This kit includes a foot of each of the 3 wick sizes they carry. I've bought from them before. They have all sorts of stuff.
Lane Shirey
Never had a problem using the stuff from McMaster. Buy the “firm” type. It should be white. You can buy it by the foot. maybe they’re buying it from a cheaper source these days. Edited August 30 by Lane Shirey
Steve Sherwood
I buy from McMaster Carr.
John Landstrom
Ditto on the above, although I’ve bought what I needed for many sources including those above as well as AntiqueFanSupply (high cost shipping), and eBay sources.
