I have a western electric 7901 (R&M) fan I purchased several months ago. It runs real smooth, however the base gets very HOT. Could it be the resistor in the base ? If so, is there an aftermarket resistor that I could use ? Thanks!

It's a Direct Current fan.  It gets hottest on low but less on medium and none on high.

Thanks Anthony ! Just not use to a fan component getting so hot .

On low the switch generates heat from the power it's restricting from going to the motor.  Less on medium and none on high.   There's a better way to explain that probably.

Are you running that on standard AC power?

That's a no no. You need as full wave bridge rectifier to convert AC to DC in route to your switch? Anthony will help you with his big brain.

Well,  your not supposed to.  Some fans will run and some don't

Send me your address and I will send you a small bridge rectifier "extension cord" to plug the fan into.

No worries  don't worry about it.    Plug fan into it and it into wall.

And don't run it on AC.

Those fans were meant to be run on 110 volts, I use a VARIAC at 90 volts or less
