A Very Small Fiber Washer and the S-3 it Went In

I recently acquired a small lathe and have just about got it set up and have made some test cuts.

Here is the first real project part that I made with the lathe, a very small insulating washer for an S-3 centrifugal switch.

Here is a short video of the S-3 starting on low speed with the repaired centrifugal switch.

My cast base S3 is still apart in a box for years. I don't recall tiny fiber washers. That may not be good. 🙂

Hi Russ,

The tiny washer is on the stationary part of the switch. The switch is a knife type with two poles. the knives make on no centrifugal force and open when the motor comes to speed. the knife bridge between the two is riveted to the knives themselves and insulated from the centrifugal mechanism with two larger washers and a tiny washer in the bridge holes around the rivet. The stationary part of the switch does not appear to be shown in the drawings that you posted.

Thanks,

Mark

Actually, been there done that, just been so long I don't recall the washer. I and Matthew Albach had a post on the old website on these animals. Matthew had pictures of the armature disassembled. I had mine completely apart as well. Matthew was/is heavy duty on collecting and working on these early Century animals.

I can't access the old website forum/BST anymore, otherwise I could have pulled up a bunch of images.

I know, it is a downright lowdown crying shame that nothing has been done to preserve the old forums. I gave it my best amatuer hacking effort, but alas, I was not successful.
