I went to Menards and ACE hardware in my area. Neither had the correct switch. The threaded shafts were plastic and to long. This outfit I posted is reasonable, the switch is decent, and has cheap shipping.

My total bill was $7. 17. And they ship fast. Now Jim is going to go to Home Depot and Lowes anyway just to see if he can better my offer/help.🙂 Unfortunately for me, both of those places are over an hour from my home.

HA! Now try finding a SPDT rotary switch!!! Tried finding one for my 2 speed Command Air- the switch was replaced decades ago with a brown SPTT switch and works, but has 2 high speed settings. Ain't right. All they make nowadays is SPTT or SPST rotaries. I DID find a SPDT (ONE, and ONLY one on the whole interweb!!!) but no real world measurements, very vague. I ordered and am waiting on it, but believe it is going to be too large from their mm, cm, inch or unknown measurements they listed, with no clarification...

Just replace it with a two-position center off toggle. The fan won't mind.

Thought about it. Had the toggle in hand at the store(s). Said: "NOPE". We'll see how the new one fits (if at all) when it arrives. Other than that, I guess I'll live with it as is... just boils my blood that they can't figure out how to manufactor a stinking switch. Even a cheesy communist made rotary switch would suffice... :classic_angry:

Victor. I think your Luminaire is the “Florentine Bronze” finish. Nice looking. Interesting that your fan has that ornamental union mid-way on the pole stand. Mine does not have that. Your motor is the early one with the pot-metal bearing holders, with oilers. Tread cautiously!

Evan, that decorative piece on the shaft is exclusive to the 6’ model along with the 15” feet. The 5’ models did not come with it., and they came with 10” feet. That is a 6’ model.

Thanks for the info Russell. I know nothing about Luminaires other than having "seen 'em around" and I hadn't noticed there was a height difference between models. Learning though!

Starting to reassemble.  Glade I didn't work at the Luminaire factory , those cast pieces seem to be spring loaded,   hence the landing pad20231211_173357.thumb.jpg.e963ea237f6abe8185c04d711a032445.jpg20231211_173009.thumb.jpg.2b0c7de4408d0d90cf6972a93804df08.jpg

Sounds like my current wages...

I live less than 20 miles where that fan was made so they are quite prevalent around here.. the famous picture of two luminaires set out to the trash is from Covington Kentucky, where the designer lived.. 95% of these fans have damage filagree, because of how the legs wind up getting repositioned….. position two legs up front and one leg  in the back, not the other way around or  you may also fall prey to falling backwards … if your motor self-destructs, from the crumbling bearing holders you can replace the hole thing with one from any Victor breeze spreader.
By studying the filigree castings carefully, you can see places designed to help carry the wires, modern wiring is too thick. You will need to use the old stuff.

Thanks David, spun it around

mine was originally wired as pictured, however,  I notice a hole in center of bottom casting ( screw driver pointing )that looks like it should go there?17024152804992735988565099311703.thumb.jpg.7404fdb85613197b69bc1b3692e23747.jpg17024153723341603854909468515227.thumb.jpg.64f1fb06c12085c0b31c0e08eff7959f.jpg17024153968467037167503241698234.thumb.jpg.fd0c9e74ad808473b56b728cfe55fbbe.jpg

That center hole was in each of the cast panels that make up the top, sides and bottom of the cage, and the purpose was to mount the crest with its threaded nipple in that hole in the top panel. Victor realized it didn't need to make a special panel for just the top, so it made all four quarter panels the same. My wires thread out the back of the motor, to the sides, and down the yoke sides to enter the union.

All I can say is…once properly wired you will be able to swivel the motor in the yoke..
