Annie Hill
In talking with Jamie last night, there have been some requests for some to retrieve their messages from the OLD forum. Access to messaging on the OLD forum will be available until the end of the month (FEB,28th) after that, access to view or use the old system messaging will be closed. Please get your messages copied or forwarded to an email address if you want them as soon as possible We hope this helps in the transition... Happy Feb 1st!!! David Allen
Hi Annie. How do you move your messages from there to an e-mail address? I don't see any archive or download function available? Also, I take it that there is some technical limitation preventing the messages from being left in place in a read-only fashion like the rest of the forum? Jamie Horner
Unfortunately there does not seem to be an easy way (or really any way) to move the messages to an email address. It will likely have to be a copy and paste endeavor. In which case, I would probably just copy them to a document on my computer and forego trying to move them to an email. Very frustrating considering I haven't been a "heavy user" of the forum messaging, and yet have over 800 messages. Can't imagine some of the more regulars amount of messages. Is there a reason that these aren't made to be read-only as with the forum threads? Why delete all of them?
Jamie Horner
Regrettably, the old forum software does not allow the ability for us to allow read only access to PMs.
Mark Olson
Groan. Copy and paste is not a viable option, ambitious, yes. I suppose it is a write off, so to speak.
David Allen
Understand that the old forum software doesn't have a read-only nor an export function. The issue I have with this is that nothing has been discussed about the fate of the PM system in general; however it seems to me that the implied fate of it was to become read-only. The read-only setting was talked about with regards to the whole site, it seemed. An honest question, in what way does it benefit the AFCA to hide the PM system on the old site? It seems that this is a very heavy-handed thing to do to our members. What would the downside / cost be to simply leave the PM system as-is. No new members will be registering on the old forum so it certainly won't see an increase in usage; plus most are here now and will have little reason to use that other than for reference to old messages.
Noah Britt
I know this might be asking a lot, but is there any way the time limit for message access could be extended another month? Having to sort through my private messages and copy/paste the important ones has proved to be a very time intensive process. I have been able to sort through about half of my messages this month, and given another month would be able to complete the process. I would really hate to lose all my messages, many of which contain explanations and processes which will be very helpful for future restorations. I'm very sorry to bother anyone and I wish I could've known sooner that the messaging system was going to be disabled so as to go ahead and get my messages copy/pasted before it would be a problem. Thanks, Noah
Mark Olson
I forgot this trick, since I rarely use it. Go to the old Private messages page. CTRL-S, dialog box pops up, rename, save repeat for page 2, 3, 4..... repeat for sent box...... Not nearly as intense as copy/paste for each message Btw, some browsers allow for a complete recursive save I know it may be too little too late, but I just now saved my stuff. Please allow the PM pages to stay up long enough for members to save! 1
Jamie Horner
I haven't taken the old messaging down yet. I have not had the time to get to it, so save away everyone. You have a few more days of reprieve. It's unlikely that I will get around to taking it down until about mid-month to be honest. I've just been too busy. So you have a couple weeks.
