  2. Jamie has worked really hard to make the forums a bit more user friendly. We now have a section for birthdays, congratulatory messages, etc under the Community section. Box fan tab now includes industrial fans, circulators, belt drives, etc. We hope you like the changes & hope it makes things more user friendly. I will be moving posts around to new areas the next several days, so be patient. THANKS JAMIE!

  3. I just started another thread since I'm derailing this thread? I'm at the beginning and really will need to ask EVERYTHING, so sorry this didn't come to me before but I will try to keep this restoration over there.

  4. While there are many, many styles and forms of blade wings, the vast majority of them are curved. It is this curve that makes the blade efficient. There are only two forms of these blades, clockwise (cw) and counter clockwise (ccw). Cw and ccw dictate the direction the air will move. If a cw curve is installed backwards on a cw motor the air will still move the same direction as if it were installed properly, but at a low efficiency. If the cw motor is then reversed, then the air will move efficiently in the opposite direction.

  5. The Ball motor fans were always CCW rotation, they did not use capacitors, they were a 4 pole motor. i checked every catalog i have from 1948-1964 no window fan with the ball motor was electrically reversible. my guess is that someone reassembled your fan incorrectly at some point. ive had these apart, and there is nothing preventing this from happening, the stator fits in the housing either way.

  6. Go ahead and remove the stator. Solder new head wire to the stator. Check the difference in ohms between the 3 pairs of wires that you just connected. Following the diagram, connect the wires to the speed switch. No need to worry about which factory wire went where.

  7. Lane, I again reviewed your post on this thread. I appreciate your knowledge. That info gave me more clarity as why not to experiment using another fan since a match was most likely engineered to perform one way. That saves me time too and screwing up another fan. With that I am looking forward to the new "coming soon" in the members area you mentioned.
