Identify the Fan No. 10

Steve Rockwell

Recommended Posts

I’m posting a series of 1890's fan images, perhaps weekly, or at least until a correct response is posted. In theory, each succeeding image should become more difficult to identify than the previous; in cases where the fan isn’t so hard to name I’ll likely post just a partial image to make the task a bit more of a challenge… I’m expecting the final two or three to possibly be real stumpers…..

To that I would reply "no"...    p.s. You once again made me look, unfamiliar with Victor Electric of Chicago.....

Jim, manufacturers have characteristic components, Steve is pulling a fast one on us. Definition of a fast one......... Engage in a deceitful practice or play an unfair trick.

I like this game.   Here’s a Victor fan motor/utility motor.  (I believe both).

Steve I have a photos of 1890’s stumper.  I could send you images if you want.

So what is your impression of who the motor manufacturer is?

It probably doesn't help much to provide the entire image... It probably doesn't help at all to tell you I haven't found this precise unit in the literature. I do think there's hope that someone can provide its printed image from somewhere..... and I'll continue seeking...

Finding the motor connected to a blade in electrical trade, good luck. Something helpful to your electrical trade search is the use of the word "ironclad". That is an ironclad motor.

Knapp used a similar
top-mount "switch with
terminal posts" block.

The lack of more responses suggests to me I should have rated this fan's "stump" factor more highly, and placed it later in the series.....

Its mounting tabs and
lack of any integral elevating
means (base) to provide
blade clearance except for
placing it at an edge, makes
me believe it's not necessarily
a fan motor.

Maybe it's something more like
a sewing machine motor?

Yeah, yeah, please no one refer
me to the picture of the Knapp
I posted above!

I believe that motor wasn't
exclusively for fan use either.

Ironclad, yes.
   Cube too.

But the cube is not
indestructible.
