Jim Henderson
That fan gets a bad rap! I don't see that it's any less attractive than a early BMY and yet you don't hear people calling the BMY ugly.

Also uncommon, not many of them in kim's survey from what I understand...
Jim Kovar
Will someone (not me)explain the coinage ofthe term, "Big ugly"?
Jim Kovar
IMO, some pancakesare more eye appealingthan others...
Steve Stephens
People have long called some pancakes the "big ugly" but I see only the 1907 STICK pancake (first two photos) as pictured here as being truly ugly, in my opinion. The trunnion model (last photo) is much better looking don't you think?

Steve Butler
I thought big ugly was strictly two bearing 16” cakes. I actually kind of like the thick motor and bee hive spacer. 🤷♂️ Would an ugly specialist please clarify?

Maybe the 16" ones are the BIG UGLY but the 07 12" stick is the LITTLE UGLY. Without a doubt the 16" stick from 1902 and before is the "Big Pretty". My 1901 stick below. Kim Frank
One of our members got the 1907 cake at that auction. Very decent price too. The last model of the pancakes, especially the stick mounts, are fairly uncommon. I think there are a total of 9 sticks in the survey from '06-'08 out of a total of 104 entries. Steve Rockwell
This one's extremely rare...
Kim Frank
Is that your fan Steve? I know those last models of cakes aren't collectors favorites but if looking for a stickmount model in the last years of production, a collector will find just how difficult that task can be...Also, after 1908, I don't think any stickmount fan was made by GE. Gunner Lake
I won the fan @Jim Kovar. I'm curious how you found out about it selling? Your post wasn't even two hours after the hammer struck! @Steve Stephens I agree, this model is much more elegant than the '07 stick. I love the ornate rear cast iron design. It's my first pancake, and I'm sure I'll have some questions for the group. Fortunately it works on all 5 speeds! Also, thanks to @Kim Frank for the info, advice and pre-game planning prior to the auction. Edited May 31, 2023 by Gunner Lake
Gunner Lake
Also I wanted the 10" Westy you can see next to it, but it sold for $50 + 20% tax and fees. I'd have had to bid $60 and that was too much!
