Jim Kovar
Deflective vanes behind the fan blade?... I'd think the blade would rectify or nullify much of the deflection. If anyone has one, please tie some ribbons to the cage and prove me wrong.
Steve Rockwell
I think the function of it is to shutter one side of the louvers so the fan will pivot, actuate the lever and thus alternate which side is shielded... And to have the mechanism on the front side would presumably render the action too lively... It seems as if I saw some patent back when... but finding that would require work... not on today's agenda. Also, diminishing the breeze seems a bit counter-productive, but then again I don't believe GE ever marketed such a device... Steve Rockwell
Thanks for that, Russ... a lazy day for me. Seven and a half years from submission to issue of patent--- by which time the design was pretty thoroughly obsolete. I said GE did not market the fan as shown, but it seems to me that the combination of fan and device was offered by some distributors/marketers... not sure if my memory serves in this instance... Russ Huber
Canadian patent directory. Inventor, Thomas Romer Weyant. Not in the American directory. Notice Shedd's name is not present even as a witness. Shedd the wallet/agency? 🙂 Edited April 16 by Russ Huber

Daniel Herczeg
I have little and big siblings of some Diehl desk fans, though one is disassembled in my basement, and the other will be soon due to an incident regarding a label maker.
