Use compressed air to blow out the WD-40. Repeat the process. Let it sit for a while and then try the switch and see if it works. Internal contacts may be tarnished losing continuity. WD-40 was invented in San Diego in 1953 as a rust-prevention solvent for Atlas missile outer skins. A chemist at the Rocket Chemical Company created a compound that would prevent rust and corrosion on the Atlas. It took him 40 attempts to get the water displacing formula right, but the end result became the formula for WD-40. Once the company learned that people were using the product at home, they began putting it into aerosol cans. It first appeared on store shelves in San Diego in 1958.
