Jim Roadt
I was going to leave it as is, however, the Japan is basically in great shape and I started polishing it. Shines up great as all Japan finish does. The loss of paint was too much for me and with the suggestion of a highly esteemed member . I am going to Pontypool the flat base part and planning on the natural crease to hide the transition. Worst case scenario I will have the only round back with a gold pinstripe on base
Jim Roadt
brush pontypool on and you have about 5 minutes to futz with it. Any bubbles just poke with a nail or brush out any excess. Let set for a few days then cook like ribs low and slow

Steve Butler
I’m not going to lie, I didn’t believe it was pot metal. Just checked with a magnet. Forgive me for doubting you Jim.

Russ Huber
If you find a GE roundback and it oscillates you can thank your lucky stars. The small brass gear under the worm is its Achilles's heal.

Forgive me for doubting you Jim. Hey Steve/Jim, I restored a 1914 GE Roundback a few years ago and striped every part down to bare metal. The osc gear housing is pot metal, so Jim you will need to be gentle with that housing. To be certain, I did take Steve's advise and checked it with a magnet - No sticky. Good call Steve. Jim Roadt
completed...I am now a brass patina guy. Not out of some honoring the history of it kind of thing...but more out of a hating to polish thing. Takes approximately 2 years of doing it poorly to really hate it. Lacquer thinner and steel wool to clean it is now my go to method. Makes you really appreciate the guys that do it well. Another fan used to attract people to fanapalooza II April 12-13 ( polishing station will still be available)
