  1. The BMY I am trying to figure out the wiring on right now had a bent up cage. It was not crushed but it was bent up a lot. I took a piece of pine and made a template of the S curve cage wires and then could take a small hammer and form the wires into shape. The cage turned out good IMO, not perfect but much better than it was. I can never freehand get the wires to match by bending them with Pliers or by hand.

  2. I've traced paper templates of my cages, and place the damaged cage over the paper pattern, and use that as a visual guide when reshaping. Has worked well enough so far...

  3. Friends: I dropped off a pretty banged up and messy 1902 Pancake cage to my good friend, Ron Bethoney at New England Brass refinishing a week ago. The cage was in tough shape (see below). Lots of lead solder - very messy. Today, I picked up the cage. Take a look and see a true craftsman at work! Wow, talk about bringing this cage back from the brink! Ron and his sons are artists in the same league as Ted Kaczor, Tony Clayton and Don Coleman. How fortunate we are to have such talent to call upon!

  11. Russ’ box project (Emerson 19666) he sent me exceeded my expectations. All the parts were packed carefully and labeled. It was a real pleasure putting the fan together. Russ did all the hard work, polishing, powder coating, restoring the switch, painting the hub and rotor, the list goes on. All I had to do was a little soldering and the fun part, putting it together. Since the brass was all polished I decided to lacquer all the brass. It was my first time lacquering the brass on a fan. I like a nice patina but this fan for me needed to be all dressed up and shiny. big thanks Russ!
