The Three From Moline: Part 3 T&T Mfg. Co./H.C. Tank Aluminum Fan Company

The Tank manufactured brand of circulator fans has long intrigued collectors, because there has to date not been much information concerning them. Moline, Illinois is a small town if you are a well connected fan maker, though. in 1932, George Tank is elected the Mayor of Davenport, Iowa, not too far from Moline, Illinois, where his cousin, H.C. Tank lives.                                                                                                                                                                                                           318664321_TankelectedMayorretainsH.E.Winters1932-Quad_City_Times_Thu__Apr_21__1932_.thumb.jpg.90665aa06aa6365366ed750b9af727d2.jpg1961174106_GeorgeTankPicture1933-Quad_City_Times_Mon__Apr_24__1933_.thumb.jpg.6b30c07948e9153b46643ab1e1bf2c01.jpg

Both cousins had suffered terrible death losses in their respective families:                                                     1855991980_TankH.C.MayorGeorgeTankWifeKilled1932-The_Dispatch_Mon__Jun_27__1932_.thumb.jpg.3e34855333a3067553744cf1d57c2493.jpg    1550662445_TankH.C.TanksSonDead1933-The_Dispatch_Tue__Sep_19__1933_.thumb.jpg.ad601dc3d2b39619a0dacdbf3d3fb0c1.jpg

1931, H.C. Tank gets into his foundry. His partnership with Steeb dissolves later, and Tank is in a partnership with his cousin, George, a silent partner. 674418156_TankH.C.TankInvestsinSteebCastingsconcern1931-The_Dispatch_Sat__Jul_25__1931_.thumb.jpg.24334678be33a674a72db434d5c64062.jpg

In 1933, Hans Tank invests in a company making and distributing beer taps. In the course of selling these in taverns, bars, hotels and restaurants in the Quad City area, Tank establishes his sales route:  454165874_TankH.C.TankInvestsInBeerSodaDispenserManufacturers1933-The_Dispatch_Fri__May_19__1933_.thumb.jpg.06f3f3fc96d236812fa902999519a25d.jpg218931969_TankH.C.TankInvestsInBeerSodaDispenserManufacturers21933-The_Dispatch_Fri__May_19__1933_.thumb.jpg.a06fdff40d2453601f448af850798f96.jpg

In May of 1930, T.ank and T.ank are officially throwing their hats into the circulator fan business: T.&T. Fan Manufacturing Co.:1622207264_TankH.C.andGeorgeFanBusiness-The_Dispatch_Thu__May_25__1939_.thumb.jpg.54214f17155d477c4e6f396311aed995.jpg

A month later, cousin George is out of it, selling out to Hans: H.C. Tank Aluminum Fan Co. 875461667_TankH.C.Marketing1939-The_Dispatch_Sat__Jun_10__1939_.thumb.jpg.4958402c8375b6845fd5c1dbbab5a638.jpg

The fans are marketed with moderate success, considering Tank could probably from his rooftop see Kloppenborg and Simko cranking out circulators in his neighborhood, figuratively speaking. 1939 was probably his best year, then the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor, we declare war on them, and the Axis Treaty obligates Germany and Italy to declare war on us. World War Two is started in 1941. Harland Duane Tank, Tank's second youngest son is drafted and enlists in the United States Marines, he is third from left on the bottom row: 948048995_TankHarland1944-The_Dispatch_Mon__Jun_12__1944_.thumb.jpg.e2db9737e636fe06aed87fece04fde2a.jpg                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         And it ends shortly after, tragically, with the Marines at a hellhole called Iwo JIma:                                                                347570876_TankHarlandDiesIwoJima1945-The_Daily_Times_Fri__Apr_27__1945_.thumb.jpg.af3220fdaf2f65fd9a32fb597ce8e3d2.jpg

One friend of Harland and the Tank family makes it back home by the grace of God and a lot of luck, 1945. 866072417_TankH.C.TankFoundryEmployeeOutwitsJaps1945-The_Dispatch_Wed__Apr_18__1945_.thumb.jpg.0b767a2bd359e897a384b9b38e0db806.jpg

With the grief of losing his second son, Tank lingers in the foundry business for a few more years, selling out in 1950. He died in 1957. 2113144509_ChicagoFanBusinessForSaleTankWintersSimko1950-Chicago_Tribune_Fri__Jan_20__1950_.thumb.jpg.346c63f8f1df0843f5c998613e74e639.jpg

Thanks for the history lesson, and the pictures. Those triangular-blade versions are very neat looking!

I like this Salami slicer the best.  I must cast these.

A Tank pedestal has surfaced, chromed pedestal pole, cast aluminum base, motor support and blade, General Electric on/off motor, with an in-line power switch.:
