Thanks Jeff. That is wild to see how it spins only supported by a cable! Looks like it would definitely not be something you would want to be directly underneath. However, the air would not be blown directly downward, so you wouldn't sit under it when using it. 

Definitely a novelty for sure.

Glad to see it running but that brush arcing is terrifying! That is a serious problem and can ruin the motor.

David, what is the cause of the brush arcing?    And is ANY arcing bad or will a motor in good condition still give a little sparking?

spring is weak.   I only ran it for about 10 seconds.   I will tune it up tomorrow.

Some minor sparking is to be expected, but it should be minimal and only visible while you are looking directly at the brush to commutator interface.
