Rewiring a 220v fan

I'm rewiring a 220v fan to have a more original look. Google searches say to use at least 12 AWG (12/2 Romex) with 220v, but that looks to be in the context of wiring a house.

The fan is rated at 55 watts, which at 220v, equates to .25 amps.  The too-modern cord that's on it now looks to be ordinary 16 AWG.  Any concerns replacing the wiring on this fan with the usual 16 AWG replacement twisted wire?  Should I go 14 AWG?  I'm a little leary since it's a 220v fan.

I am using a 110v-to-220v converter to run the fan. Thanks.

Thanks for the confirmation, Patrick!  That's what I was hoping for.

My 110-to-220 converter is a little 100W max converter. I read somewhere to allow 80% headroom on wattage when using a converter. Since the fan is rated at 55 watts, doing the math (55 x 1.8) puts me at 99W, pretty close to the 100W max. The converter seemed to get pretty warm the other night when I was doing some testing. Should I consider a converter with more wattage handling?

I routinely wire 220v fans with 20 gauge twisted pair wire.  Never a problem.

Thanks Bill!  I appreciate the input.
