Using 3D printer to re-create broken pieces of pot/white/spelter metal?

In one fan, a GE ca. 1930, the oscillator box is made of pot metal, and thus not surprisingly pieces of the metal broke off at some point and are lost. Thinking through the best and easiest means to reconstruct the missing piece, I thought that maybe a 3D printer would work, with iron-metal infused filament. If desired, there are various ways to plate it to make it look really authentic, as well as hide the seams. Has anyone attempted anything along those lines, and did it work? If so, any other advice? Otherwise, all I can think of is to make a mold of the missing part and then cast it with a low-temperature metal. Rather an involved procedure on a fan not really worth anything. Thank you!
