GE fan, Copper blades.

I bought this fan at a flea market. I have never seen copper blade fans. The fan is marked as S 1 . The motor runs on all three speeds but all the same speed. So I have not torn it down to see if they wired it direct or if the speed coil is bad. When did GE make copper blade fans?DSC08101.JPG.13668227fa004971b0b8a72ec8e39375.JPGDSC08102.thumb.JPG.04e5bfb94b84a0f351f3cb89a89ad83c.JPGDSC08103.JPG.aa3925222be82140f06b3ee11ab1b923.JPGDSC08104.JPG.16b1d5481abec1dc3b2884fd4621d8ed.JPGDSC08105.JPG.a595eb4895468031fa0347f43b20e593.JPG

No its not brass. I polished the back side a bit and its defiantly copper. But I thought to test to see if it was maybe copper plate. A magnet stuck to the blade. So it must be copper plate. DSC08106.JPG.6e9ee9f90cd9034d8f90f244d9d05be0.JPG

Copper flashing. It was a method they used back then in the same principle as primer. Your blade was originally painted matt brass, or possibly brass plate was used. You can polish the flashing if your careful not to wear it down to the steel.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this fan? Also could anyone give me a tutorial on how to check the speed coil? I am getting the same speed on all three settings.  I see someone has rewired it at some point but without a diagram I am not sure if its correct or not. Thanks. I set the Multi-meter to Ohms and I put one leg to the power in/out to coil. The other to the medium and slow speeds and I get a reading on both. So I think the coil is fine. I will referb it and know more once I put it back together again .

I used a polishing wheel to lightly polish and then brasso and a paper towel to finish the job. There was some copper wash missing but I left it and some of the patina then coated the whole thing with clear brass and copper lacquer. It has a neat vintage look to it.
