Russ Huber
My distinct impression.........Shedd leased the rights to either Diehl or Jandus mechanical oscillator patent as they did not have the ability to manufacture one of their own. There was a chrome diehl on ebay recently that had a similar circular oscillating mechaism, which supports russ' theory. Screenshot attached, sorry I dont have an image of the relevant backside... David, Stupid question maybe, but you must have taken the image from a Shedd Electric posting, what exactly do you want to know? Russ Huber
Shedd filed for bankruptcy in 14. Notice the patent filing date for the Shedd logo on the badge. Shedd fans fall off the map after 11-12.
David A Cherry
Thank you Russ again for coming through on this ... Being a retired tool and die maker.. I am well aware of the complexity.. this explains why not very many of these still survive .. Definitely was a time of invention.. each one trying to outdo the other.. eventually all settling down.. I have to say the worst goes to Century, for their ridiculous 16 sets of gears, the simplest goes to Fidelity.. beautiful goes to Diehl.. and the most interesting fun to watch Jandus.. The fan museum should put all the mechanical oscillating types together, So that viewers can compare all the different wackiness..

Please read the Jandus/AB fan motor line for 1911. Does anyone see anything in their 1911 fan motor line unusual? If so, please post your findings here. David A Cherry
Didn’t know they made a vane fan., i’m thinking that’s it..

Now you and others that didn't know are aware. Here is a quote of yours, David....."Definitely was a time of invention.. each one trying to outdo the other". There is what appears to be very strong support that the Dayton Fan & Motor Co., Jandus/AB, and Shedd Electric Co. were scratching each other's backs with Shedd providing vane oscillators to Jandus and Dayton Fan & motor to add to their fan motor line, and Jandus/AB providing the planetary gear mechanical oscillator to Dayton Fan & motor and Shedd for their fan motor line in a very short window of time. Shedd's new vane appeared on the market in 1909 seen below. The exchange spanned 09-11/12 it appears. So yes, there is a Dayton and Jandus/Shedd vane yet to surface. Eddy Pillsbury like lots of parts and detail. OCD, probably washed his hands often to get rid of those pesky germs. 🙂
Jim Kovar
"The" (as opposed to "our") is the operative word. The copywriter was merely differentiating the two most common means of oscillation of (all makers') fans in general. AFAIK, A-B never made vane oscillators. Someone!, please prove me wrong. Edited November 19, 2022 by Jim Kovar

Try to find an image of one in electrical trade. Dayton had desk fans with Shedd vanes and planetary gear oscillation seen in 09 and 10 electrical trade. Seen one in the flesh? One thing for fact, the 3 manufacturers were swapping goodies.
Russ Huber
The 8" planetary gear Jandus oscillator appears to have gone to market in 1910 which would be the last fan motor season for Jandus Electric Co. It appears to of had its last season on the market in 1911 with Jandus now a subsidiary of the Adams & Bagnall Co. A Jandus tagged model would date 10.......and Adams & Bagnall tagged model would date 11. There is NO mention in 1912 electrical trade of the 8" oscillator to the best of my knowledge. This would help support that manufacture year for the planetary gear Shedd oscillator for 1911, but not validate it.
