Is it possible to wire weld a cast iron broken base?

FWIW... I have had a buddy of mine mig (wire) weld a few cast iron base repairs for me without failure. The thing to be cautious of is heating up the cast iron and a fast cool down. It needs to gradually/slowly cool down or the risk of cracking is increased.

There is a young man in the AFCA (Ben Guegain?) who knows Dan O'Toole and might be near him in Texas who does amazing work on cast iron welding. He put back together my Emerson 1500 after I destroyed the case trying to get the stator out of it.
