Brent Rowell
Yes, I know of 2-3 original examples of both models above. But there are many reproductions of the 2nd type as a model company makes a kit of castings for them; still available if you want to build one. Paul Carmody
I would like to see this. The company makes air engines of larger size, espec- ally for driving window display novelties where motion of the display is desirable for attracting notice. Interesting read. Thanks for posting. Brent Rowell
Actually this fan is larger than their little hot air engines for store displays.
Terry Fisher
Good looking fan. Looks like that blade needs some work? Did it run using natural gas? That is the only Essex I have seen other than a reproduction. Original Essex fans like that must be very rare. They must have been operating at low RPM. The blades have some serious deep pitch. 🙂

Emerson 6 wing 6 pole 12" and 16" residence desk and bracket fans operate at roughly 1050 RPM peak, 950 RPM second, and 850 RPM low speed. So not only is this Essex clunking and clanging along, but it is also spinning at a top end at roughly 250 to 350 RPM less than low speed on a 6 pole 6 wing electric residence desk fan. If I find one, I am going to gift it to Brent so he can enjoy it clunking and clinking in his garage. I am sure his wife would be thrilled if he added another jewel to the home and collection. 🙂 Edited December 22, 2022 by Russ Huber
Terry Fisher
That is some serious pitch on that blade! Looked like one of the wings was bent. Brent could make that fan run smooth and quiet so I bet he would gladly take it. 👍

Brent Rowell
I'll be looking forward to it Russ; it's Christmas, after all. he one above was in a public museum and I know of only one that's in a private collection (not mine, unfortunately). I'm on it, as soon as the deep freeze lets up here. The cat is even smart enough to not beg to go outside. Have faith in me you're going to eventually own one, and don't let it affect your Holiday Season.
