Jim Kovar Posted January 27, 2023 Author Posted January 27, 2023 (edited) My opening bid of $25(proxied down to $5)did not hold. At auctions, being firstdoesn't mean squat. Edited January 27, 2023 by Jim Kovar Quote
Jim Kovar Posted January 27, 2023 Author Posted January 27, 2023 (edited) A good welder could... cut that gaudy fish-tailthingy off and make itinto a nice round base. Edited January 27, 2023 by Jim Kovar Quote

Mel Lagarde Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 Jim Thank you for posting this. An incredibly rare opportunity that someone landed. So does this make 5 known examples? Mel Quote

David Kilnapp Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 I saw this but don’t know what it sold for. What was the winning bid? Quote
David Kilnapp Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 Thanks Patrick. That's an impressive amount of money! Quote
Steve Butler Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 The buyers premium alone is out of my range! Hopefully the new owner will show it off in all its glory in the near future. Congrats to whoever got it. Quote
Jim Henderson Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 If I'm not mistaken, Kim Frank has one...of course and I think our good friend, Ron Jeter sold one at Darryl Hudsons meet several years ago for$4500. Quote
Nicholas Denney Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 Very nice project that surfaced. Here's hoping the seller and/or buyer have enough collective wits to ensure the fan doesn't end up as fractured cast iron. I no longer buy online unless I can pick up. I've had rare cast iron pieces damaged by ignorant sellers who assured me of their supppsed experience and competence. Quote
Kim Frank Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 Watched this one closely. Nice stump. Prior to this auction, ten were known in collections. Whoever won this one must have wanted it badly. Gavel price of $8600, then a hefty buyers premium. Maybe tax. Then factor in the cage, blade, struts, oilers, bearing cap, and some acorns. Probably north of 12K when done. Hopefully there's not a shiny black and brass restoration in it's future. Quote
