Trouble shooting an R&M GearBack

LIST 11590 = 16" Gear Back"

Can I test run without the switch? I attempted to "Hot Wire " and got hums, I have read some fans will not start with no coil,

(Phase SHift or some such Science) Was running before I took it apart, I stripped most of the green paint, Japan is very good, has 

a few paint splatters, note the switch has that "halo" coil around the inner coil

Halo coil is probably shot. Yes you need the coil/ switch for the phase shift on a 3 wire headwire motor. 
 

if the coil is bad you might be able to sub a cap like with the BMYs. Though not certain.
