Dave McManaman Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 (edited) I picked up this skeletal a while back. It was gifted to me by a fellow collector along with some other fans all of which were non-running. I’ve never worked on one of these before. My plan is to do a thorough cleaning and leave the paint/patina as is. Cosmetically, it looks good save for a crack in the motor tag. But, first and foremost, I need to diagnose and try and get it operational. I turned it on briefly and it just hummed. I bumped the blade, it turns freely, but not on its own. Anything I should look to first or just start tearing it down and ohming the stator etc? I’d search the old site but it’s been hit/miss for me the last week - mostly miss with error messages. Stan Adams Posted February 21, 2023 Posted February 21, 2023 I have a model 14 & a model 15. Unfortunately I had to have both rewound for a similar issue. Check the continuity on all three head wires. 3 Quote
Matthew Albach Posted February 21, 2023 Posted February 21, 2023 Most case it’s the speed coil I had one similar to what’s you were describing the phase shift burned out on the speed coil there’s one way to start the fan is turn it or spin it by hand it should go from there it might take a few but in long term is the speed coil has to be rewound 1 Quote
Tony Clayton Posted February 21, 2023 Posted February 21, 2023 Will it spin start? Spin blade and power on ............ Quote
Dave McManaman Posted February 22, 2023 Author Posted February 22, 2023 Thanks all. Yes, that’s the first thing I tried was to give a spin when I turned it on. No luck. Need to open it up and see what numbers I get (and what it looks like). 1 Quote
